UW-Fond du Lac Students Head to Habitat for Humanity Build in Georgia During Spring Break

3/2/12

Eight students from the UW-Fond du Lac Habitat for Humanity Club will be hitting the road during their spring break and traveling to Georgia to participate in Habitat for Humanity’s collegiate “Blitz Build” Mar. 17-24.

The students will be spending a week with the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Albany, Georgia, improving their skills and connecting with new people. The club members worked as a team to research the project and plan for a sober spring break to promote awareness of the need for affordable housing for those who lack adequate shelter.

The student Habitat for Humanity Club received initial funding from UW-Fond du Lac for the trip and is involved in several fundraising projects to meet their expenses including a basket raffle and 50/50 raffle on campus Mar. 12-15.

Club members will be volunteering at the Culver’s located at W6606 Hwy 23, across from Menards, in Fond du Lac, 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 5 and Monday, Mar. 12. They will be waiting on tables and 10 percent of the sales during that time will be donated by Culver’s to the club.

They will also be holding a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle on Saturday, Mar. 10, at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 150 S. Brooke St., Fond du Lac. The ReStore is hosting a special 50% off sale on this day, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The UW-Fond du Lac Habitat for Humanity Club was formed in January 2011 and the student-led organization has been active in the community and on the campus since its formation. Its goal is to offer students the opportunity to become involved in their community through community projects and volunteerism related to housing for those in need.
