UW-Fond du Lac to host “New Economy, New Skills” discussion on Nov. 14
Employment forecasts and reports fill the headlines with concern over job security, available jobs and the shortage of trained workers. UW-Fond du Lac will host a “New Economy, New Skills” discussion which will address the question of where the future jobs will be found, 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the LGI Room, 400 University Dr.
Jeff Sachse, regional economist for 17 counties of Northeast Wisconsin in the Office of Economic Advisors at the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, will explain how the world of work and education has changed since the last recession as well as the impact of the Baby Boom generation on future workforce needs.
Adults considering further education will find the presentation helpful in making a decision about whether a college degree is right for them and will learn more about higher education options, majors and fields of study where employment trends are strong.
“There has been much in the news lately about whether or not a college degree is worth it,” said Joyce Atkins, assistant campus dean for student services at UW-Fond du Lac. “Jeff Sachse will share forecasts and information on careers with strong employment trends and career paths that will make a college degree more affordable. He will offer insights into the careers for today - and the careers of tomorrow that we may not even know about today.”
The program will also be valuable to human resource and management professionals who will learn more about economic and employment trends. This updated information may help guide decisions on hiring projections, needed degrees and tuition reimbursement needs for a more educated workforce.
UW-Fond du Lac student services team members will be available to discuss bachelor degree completion programs and services for returning adult students.
There is no cost to attend the program. Pre-registration is appreciated by calling UW-Fond du Lac at (920) 929-1122 or by sending an e-mail to tera.annoye@uwc.edu.
