News Release
Bone marrow donor recruitment event to be held at UW-FDL on Feb. 13
Anyone 18-44 years of age can join registry at the event
UW-Fond du Lac will be hosting a bone marrow donor recruitment event in cooperation with Be The Match, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the UW-Fond du Lac University Center Commons, 400 University Dr.
Anyone 18-44 years of age can join the bone marrow registry at the event. Those joining the registry must be committed to donating to a patient in need.
Registering to be a bone marrow donor at the event is a simple process. Donors will fill out a registration form and complete a mouth/cheek swab. If a donor matches a patient once they are listed on the registry, the donor will be called and will be required to give a blood sample to determine if they are the best match for the patient in need. If the donor is a match for the patient, they will donate marrow.
Anyone unable to attend the event in person can also join the registry online at www.bethematch.org/join and use the code UWFDL13.
More information and frequently asked questions about the donation process is available online at the Be The Match website www.bethematch.org. For more than 20 years, the National Marrow Donor Program, which operates Be The Match, has been helping patients receive live-saving transplants.
