Two ensembles that include students from both Marian University and the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac will present spring concerts in April. The public is invited to these free events.
The Collegiate Wind Ensemble and Little Big Band are a collaborative effort between the two universities, directed by Dr. Brian Lydeen of Marian University.
The Collegiate Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 28, in the Prairie Theater at UW-Fond du Lac.
The program by the Collegiate Wind Ensemble will consist of works composed by noted band composers Samuel Hazo, Percy Grainger and Jan Van der Roost. Also included are pieces by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, “Excerpts from Appalachian Spring” by Aaron Copland, and John Darling’s exciting piece “West River Jubilee.”
The Little Big Band will present an evening of jazz at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, in the Hornung Student Center located at Marian University.
The Little Big Band’s selections for the program will feature Lee Morgan’s “Sidewinder, Pent Up House” by Sonny Rollins and Count Basie’s “Shiny Stockings,” as well as several Latin numbers to include a fun Cha Cha version of “Pick Yourself Up,” the samba “Brazil,” and an intense version of John La Barbara’s “Tiger of San Pedro.”
