General Info

College for Kids is for students entering Grades 5-8 in 2015. The College for Kids instructors have expertise in their subject areas and are excited about the opportunity to provide challenging enrichment opportunities for academically, creatively and artistically talented children. Courses are designed to meet the special needs of high ability children who are motivated to learn. 
 
Unlike years past a teacher signature is NOT required this year to enroll since the application is online.

Registration is CLOSED.

All steps must be completed for registration to be processed. Your seat is not saved until registration, payment, and the health form are received.

  1. Simply choose one all-day camp or two half-day camps and register/pay here.
    The College for Kids program fee includes instruction, materials, and daily snack. Enrollment is first come/first serve and seats are limited. Register early.

Monday - Thursday, July 20 – 23, 2015
9:00 a.m.  – 3:20 p.m.

Choose Two Classes Per Student to Complete a Camp from the TWO CLASS CAMPS.

You must select TWO classes to complete a camp and for your registration to be complete (Camp cost is $139($69.50/class). Your registration will NOT be complete, nor will your spot be held, if you fail to register for two classes at the time of registration.

Class times for TWO Class Camps:
Class I: 9:00  – 11:50 a.m. (break 10:15 - 10:35 a.m., snack is provided)
Lunch: 11:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Lunch break (lunch is not provided-bring along a bagged lunch), including supervised athletics, activities and free time.)
Class II: 12:30  – 3:20 p.m. (break 1:45 - 2:05 p.m.)
Parents are encouraged to accompany your child to the final day of workshops on Thursday

1. Freaking on Physics

Learn about some fascinating topics in Physics with hands-on experiments. Experiment with optics, lasers, magnetic braking, holograms, watch fast motion turn to slow motion and other fun activities. Learn how Physics applies to machines, nature and the human body. $69.50

2. Critters and Clean Water

Students will be examining the health of a nearby pond by collecting water critters and analyzing its water. Children will learn about point and non-point source pollution, macro invertebrates, turbidity, nitrates, phosphates, and the importance of oxygen levels in our waterways. $69.50

3. Can you dig it? Adventures in Wisconsin Dirt

You’ll discover how archaeologists do research, right here in Wisconsin. Learn about stone tools and other artifacts, and even make your own to take home. You’ll also take part in real dig and discover buried treasures. If you’re interested in Wisconsin’s past, this is the class for you! $69.50

4. Chem-tastic Reactions

Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble - In this hands-on chemistry class, students will perform experiments to help them learn about the nature of matter and reactions it undergoes. Students will learn more about different types of reactions and how they can manipulate and control the reactions of different chemicals. Come learn about the exciting world of chemistry! $69.50

5. Architecture Adventure

We’ll begin with a crash course in architectural styles and basic elements of design and get our creativity flowing with a few marshmallows and toothpicks! Our big challenge will be designing and constructing a cityscape out of random scraps of materials. When our structures are put together, we’ll add color and textureto make our cityscapes all the more awesome. $69.50 

6. Dynamic Drawing

Learn how to improve your drawing skills with a variety of techniques. Take your creativity to the next level as you combine collage and drawing to create visually striking works of art. Embrace the limitless possibilities as you playfully explore new artistic directions. Bring a large old shirt…this could get messy! $69.50

All-Day Camp 1. Game Maker: Video Game Programming

This camp gives kids the opportunity to flex their creative muscles using the very powerful and intuitive Game Maker software. Using visual scripting, kids will learn to create rooms, trigger events, add music and sounds, and keep track of their score. Kids will also use 2D sprites to develop characters, creatures, and effects! Come join us for four days of learning, creativity, and fun! This is an ALL-DAY camp. Register early, seats are limited. $159

All-Day Camp 2. Incredible Eggbotics: The Intersection of Art and Technology

Back by popular demand! If you didn’t take this last year, now is YOUR chance to join the fun! Build the ultimate art-robot, a computer controlled robotic machine that draws on any sphere, including eggs! You will start with individual parts- electronics, motors and mechanical- and discover what each part does, program it, and then assemble it all into a real, working artist’s CNC machine. You will learn the basics of computer based graphic design and output your designs to your Sphere-Bot.

The Sphere-Bot and software are yours to keep when the class is through. This is an ALL-DAY camp. Register early, seats are limited. $159

 

Chaperones

We are looking for parents willing to be College for Kids chaperones. Duties will range from being teacher aides to helping at refreshment breaks and monitoring students as they move from class to class. Parents helping us with these duties will have their child’s registration fee reduced to $75.

If interested and to be considered, please indicate on the online registration form or email teri.mattek@uwc.edu. In the email include the program name (College for Kids/L.E.A.P.S.), your child’s name, and your name/contact information. You will be contacted after June 22 and only if selected to be a chaperone.

Registration Deadline/Cancellation Policy

June 12, 2015. Confirmation of enrollment will be emailed to students after June 22, 2015.

Cancellations through the registration deadline (June 12, 2015) will be assessed a $10.00 cancellation fee. There are no cancellations after this date.

Scholarships

Fond du Lac School District Scholarship

 Does your child attend the Fond du Lac School District (public or private)? The Fond du Lac Board of Education has approved scholarship funding to be provided equally among Fond du Lac School district students for the UW-Fond du Lac “College for Kids” Program. Complete and submit the scholarship application by June 1, 2015.  You will need to pay the full amount when registering and will be reimbursed for the scholarship amount when your application is approved.

UW-FDL Continuing Education Scholarhip

If your child is eligible for the free and reduced lunch program, additional scholarship funds may be available. Please contact our office at 920-929-1155 for more information. By the registration deadline (June 12, 2015) you must submit a copy of the letter from the school district showing that the child qualifies for free/reduced lunch. You will need to pay the full amount when registering and will be reimbursed for the scholarship amount when your application is approved. Mail to:
