The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac athletic department has hired Jenna Johnson as head women’s basketball coach.
“Jenna brings a strong basketball resume to UW-Fond du Lac; I am excited to have her on staff," Athletic Director Jeremiah Hoffmann said. “Jenna is very knowledgeable and will work hard!”
Johnson, a Fond du Lac native, joins the Falcons with a wealth of coaching experience in the Fond du Lac area. She started her coaching career at Woodworth Middle School and moved on to coach the freshman team at Fond du Lac High School. Johnson was then promoted to head coach of the Cardinals’ junior varsity team, a position she held for the previous four seasons. Prior to her coaching career, Johnson played basketball for three seasons while she attended Fond du Lac High School.
On the court, Falcons fans can expect Coach Johnson’s team to have a run-and-gun offense. “I want my team to have a quick, fast-paced offense where we’re always pushing the ball down the court,” said Johnson. “Defensively, we will protect the paint at all times.”
Johnson’s prior work with the current roster gives her a head start in preparing her team for the upcoming season. As Johnson explains, “Some of the girls from last year’s team I coached in eighth grade, so it’ll be fun to see how they’ve progressed and how we can build on their work ethic and enthusiasm.”
Off the court, Johnson’s squad will become a tight-knit community with a team-first attitude. “I want our girls to work for each other and know that no matter what goes on in their lives, their fellow teammates and coaches will be there to help them,” she added.
Johnson says she is looking forward to continuing her coaching career in Fond du Lac, especially at the college level with a university that encourages athletes. “It’s always a good thing to have pride in your hometown schools, and the school’s encouragement of athletes shows how caring the school is.”
