Organic Chemistry
Dr. Theys joined the
UW-Fond du Lac faculty in
2003 after teaching at
UW-Fox Valley and
UW-Oshkosh. His area of
expertise is organic
chemistry with emphasis on
the use of organometallics
for organic synthesis. In
addition to his academic
background, he has worked in
industrial chemistry
positions. This industry
experience enables him to
connect “real life”
chemistry to theoretical
chemistry in the classroom.
He studied the German
language in Germany for two
summers, one with Marquette
University and another with
Georgetown University. Dr.
Theys is a member of the
American Chemical Society
and the Boy Scouts of
America (Assistant
Scoutmaster).
Away from the campus, Dr.
Theys enjoys attending
sporting events such as
soccer, basketball and
baseball, especially when
any of his four children are
participating. He and his
family enjoy visiting
national parks such as
Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand
Canyon, Zion and Mesa Verde
in their pop-up camper. Dr.
Theys also enjoys being
involved in his church and
his children's school
activities.
When not engrossed in a
chemistry textbook, he
enjoys reading fictional
novels by authors such as
J.R.R. Tolkien and Terry
Brooks. He and his wife
enjoy going out to the Adler
Brau in Appleton for a
Dopplebock.
