Dean's Bio - John N. Short

Dr. John Short became chief executive officer and dean of UW-Fond du Lac in July of 2010. He also holds the rank of tenured professor in the political science department.

Dean Short believes a key component of a university education is the creative experience and he is dedicated to the UW-Fond du Lac creative campus experience which embraces creativity in all of its forms.

He has been a leader in establishing and gaining accreditation of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in social work, as well as accreditation in art and design, music, business and teacher preparation programs. He continues to expand the bachelor’s degree completion programs available at UW-Fond du Lac and has broadened the opportunities for area high school students through the university’s concurrent enrollment program.

Prior to coming to UW-Fond du Lac, Dr. Short was Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. He spent eight years at Millersville University, a regional comprehensive university with an enrollment of 8,000 students.

Before leaving Millersville University, Dean Short was honored to be awarded the Excellence and Equity Award “in recognition of outstanding leadership in support of diversity initiatives and programs and distinguished service to the President’s Commission on Cultural Diversity.”

He is a board member of the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, a member of the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce Sounding Board, serves on the Healthy Fond du Lac 2020 Steering Committee and is a member of the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Fond du Lac Noon Rotary Club and the Fond du Lac Elks Club.

Dean Short holds a Doctor of Arts in government from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; a Master’s Degree in political science from State University of New York at Albany; and a Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State University.
